I personally believe that the vocation of farming is one of those few things in the modern world that reminds you of how we are not in control. Bad weather happens, trees fall on fence lines, water lines bust, and the worst of all, pigs break out. We can put all of the controls in place that we want, but the truth is that life is full of unexpected things. But it is in these unexpected moments throughout the day that most form us, for good or for bad. We can choose to allow our sufferings and interruptions to forge fortitude and character, or we can lash out in anger and rage and bitterness. May we choose the former and not the latter.
